Q: You refer to yourself as a spiritual entertainer. What does that mean?
Pattie: I didn't coin the phrase, Alan Watts did. I'm just increasing the club membership. It describes the many facets of what I do. It's an all-inclusive title. Spirituality, if you're doing it right, is very entertaining. In fact, it's the great show in town. Actually it's the only show in town. Anything that can get people laughing, while making them think is the perfect way to share spirituality and communicate. My humor helps people not to only laugh but also to think. This is the perfect way to share spirtuality and communication.
Q: How does this differ from being an entertainer or an actor?
Pattie: I'm out there with my own audience, more so than the usual performance. I interact with them through reading their cards, speaking with them and hearing their reactions. I'm not acting; rather I'm sharing with them and participating in a real time event. I'm 'out there' and 'in there' with my audience.
Q: Why did you make the transtion from reader and educator to performer?
Pattie: It seemed like the next logical step. Performing reaches a larger number of people. Reading and consulting is generally one-on-one or a small group. Educating can be entertaining, of course, but the word alone limits the scope of what can acutally happen.
My show is about all interaction; connecting with the audience. Because I'm reading cards for the audience, interspersed with vignettes about my life, they are then compelled to share their lives. What starts out as individuals coming to see a show, becomes a group dynamic. This opens up communication and understanding between everyone. It's all wrapped in humor and anecdotes, making it freeing for those who aren't used to self-exposure.
There is an education in my show, of course, but it's neither pedantic nor formalized. There's no "ism" in my spirituality. It's alive; it's organic, collective while highly individualized and absolutely in the moment.
Q: How did you get stated performing?
Pattie: I've been into performing, acting and the group experience since I was a kid. As a student of metaphysics since 1972, it all just came together as the perfect milieu for my work, what I do and how I am.
Q: What's next for you?
Pattie: More of the same and who knows? Maybe make the national debt disappear? Take a cruise down the stream of consciousness? I'm keeping myself open. I plan to do radio, TV, more lectures and write another book. I'm ready to do whatever brings me and people together for any profound sharing and entertaining experience.
